Workbench Wednesday | 12 Years of the Thunder Mesa Mining Company

Welcome to Workbench Wednesday at Thunder Mesa Studio! This week we’re celebrating 12 years of the On30 Thunder Mesa Mining Company layout! Join me as I take a fond look back at the early days of the layout and how it’s grown and changed over the years. Then it’s a look ahead at what’s in store for the future. A huge THANK YOU to everyone who has followed and supported this model railroad project over the years!

Thanks for watching!
Dave

  1. Dave, I just watched the “12 years” video. This might seem a bit strange to share with you, but it illustrates the impression your work has made on me. I’m sure you remember all those HO cars I sent you for the fine work you did for me on my Heralds. I once ( 35 years ago) had a beautiful HO layout of my beloved Virginia and Truckee RR. It was 26’x34’ and included all major towns, mines etc. Due to failing eyesight, and just old age (70 now) I sold it all and went to On30 but after downsizing I never had a place to build a layout nor the funds to do so being on fixed income. Your inspiration has changed that. I still play with trains as I am the lead conductor for the 1/1 V&T now in my old age. But now I’m building 12×16 climate and dust controlled room to start building once again. Thank you for giving an old man the help, hope, and desire once again.
